Signal Boost: Return of the DDoS
Originally posted by deathpixie at Signal Boost: Return of the DDoSFor those wanting to know more about the recent DDoS attacks, yes, it looks like it was the Russian government trying to shut down the dissidents again. As I said last time, while it's frustrating not to have access, LJ is a lot more than a social network platform. From the article: "LiveJournal isn’t just a social network. It’s also a platform for organizing civic action. Dozens of network projects and groups mobilize people to solve specific problems — from defending the rights of political prisoners to saving endangered historic architecture in Moscow."So while I know many are considering the move over to Dreamwidth and other such sites, supporting LJ is a way we can help support those who use it for more than a writing/roleplaying/social venue. Also, as a FYI, LJ is giving paid users effected by the outage two weeks of paid time as compensation. | | Wednesday, February 16th, 2011 | | 7:15 pm |

LJ Disappointment
Apparently I can't insert an embedded media into LJ. The code gets wiped every time. Maybe it just doesn't like iframes? Probably. Any code above? No? Then LJ doesn't like it. | | Tuesday, October 26th, 2010 | | 5:30 am |

Altered reality
One of the benefits of insanity is changing your views randomly. Flip flop flip flip banana rock >) Depression over stupidity can come and go but the irony comes when depression flips. Little manic, though not bi-polar. Little giddy but still off kilter. Today's a good day because it's Friday. Today's a good day because I'm insane. Today's a good day because of purple dragons of a questionable sexual orientation. *L* Current Mood: Insane | | Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010 | | 5:50 am |

Water + Laptop = BAD
So I have successfully disassembled, dried out, cleaned and reassembled my laptop. Safe Mode anti-virus scans revealed two worms, however that didn't fix it. All data was backed up anyway so using the system recovery disks did a quick wipe and reinstall. System freaked out during sysprep. So I'm rerunning the wipe, only doing a deep clear, this one running over night writing 0s to the whole drive. Going to reinstall and hoping for the best. It could still be hardware. It could be some part of the memory that is affected or some part of the motherboard. But the fact that safe mode runs with no issues makes me wonder. As it stands I'm hoping this will clear up the issue. However I have no guarantees. The really sad part is that my service protection plan expired last Wednesday. I used it once when the monitor flaked out so at least that was something. But I worry that the laptop is dead. Or at least unusable for the time being. Going to keep testing aspects of it until I'm certain. Current Mood: annoyed | | Sunday, January 3rd, 2010 | | 1:55 pm |

Note to TV guys
Hey, you can't rerun old commercials, especially since everything went digital. They look like crap on anything over 480p, besides aren't you do for new Christmas commercials? I mean a decade of fainting M&M and Santa is a little much. | | 6:57 am |
The Good, the Bad, the sanity
The Good: Work has moved the pay date from Jan 1 to Dec 31 since Jan 1 banks are closed. (they could have gone to a later date), which means I get an extra pay check this month. Yay The Bad: Financially, after an accident, multiple bad things happening financially, I am in the position I was in prior to getting my job 3 years ago, strapped for cash and doing a juggling act. The Sanity: I have a job, but I might as well not have a job if it doesn't provide enough that I need. I bust my butt like I always have, but we're the bought, not the buying company. Strangely we are looked at the ones who "Can't get it right", but the joke is We can. But the sad part is we are understaffed, pushed to the point of breaking, and still expected to do more. The sad, funny part is I'd be worse off if I was still at my old position mentally, but better off financially. I figure this month I could have earned over 30 hours overtime in every pay period except this one (hard to hit overtime with company holidays). But I could use the money. At the same time, I'm more relaxed and unstressed than I have been in almost 3 years. So Sanity. Current Mood: Sane | | Friday, December 11th, 2009 | | 7:07 am |
Is it wrong?
Some days I want to just be confrontational. Most of the time I don't care enough to listen to the otherside of the argument though... Well at least when I know they're wrong, especially when most of their argument is half-assed excuses that make me stare at the stupid and want to poke it with a stick... ( Stick Poking! )Whoa, ramblings of a mad man. ;) Current Mood: amused | | Tuesday, November 17th, 2009 | | 7:19 am |
New Place
I have a new place! Well, sorta. Paperwork and such. Moving electric, etc. But hazzah, search is over. 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 1050 sqft. Fios available! Hell it's already wired for it, they just have to switch it on. I got this place for only $8 more than I'm paying now for a 725 sqft. Sure I'd have liked to get something bigger for cheaper, but I can afford $8 more. But the nicest part is this: November is free. December is only going to cost half normal rent. January is only going to cost half normal rent. And I now have a month and a half to move everything. New job means non-crazy hours too! (By the by, I'm not showing the floor plan or location on this public post, but bug me and I'll show it to you.) Current Mood: excited | | Friday, November 6th, 2009 | | 12:57 pm |
What's up with me?
I had the crazy notion to actually update this thing. Shut up and let me have my delusions. ;) What's new in my life? The job, more specifically the one I start Monday. I'm moving from the SPG (formerly VMC) side of operations (where we build customer specific systems. A few appliances but mostly systems) to the RMA side of things. This works out on paper to be both a transfer and a promotion. It's kinda weird. First, the job is considered above SPG technician, as you really don't need to know much to do the job (I'm insulted by this, but I also look at select co-workers). However as work is still holding it's "wage lock down" there is no monitary improvement. So good and bad. I'm actually excited about it though. I like fixing things more than building. It proves that I'm intelligent. It proves it a lot over in my opinion. *shrugs* The apartment, well not so much yet as we have only given notice and will be moving out the end of the year. (We need manual labor. Please volunteer here). We haven't found the place yet, mostly because all of our searching so far has yielded a lot of "These specials end this month" or "We don't know if we'll have that model available when you're looking to move in" which blows, but it's understandable. We started looking in October! We will have the place picked out and the boxes packed before we move. It'll be both hecktic and good. And the big plus is that I won't be on the side with the HUGE PUSH of product at the end of the year. Oh well, no 40 hours of overtime. (I think. o.O Can't say what my schedule will really look like.) My body, I think I want to trade up or try a new one. For one I wouldn't mind being 16 again. I'm over the awkward thing, and I wouldn't mind having the flexibility again. I'm still eating healthy. I'm at 7 months, 8 days since my last soda. I swear there needs to be an AA for soda drinkers. I've been trying to live better for a while. I feel better, but I don't know if I look better. *shrugs* Moot point. Well that's enough of an update for now. Lunch is over. Current Mood: anxious |
